Carter and Taylor

The Simple Laid Back Wedding

I met Carter and Taylor back in early 2019 when they jumped straight into wedding planning for their Fall 2020 wedding. Taylor described herself as an anxious Type A person and loved how Carter’s laid-back personality helped to balance everything out. I knew from the time that I met Taylor that she was going to be a bride who knew what she wanted and would make it happen and I loved that about her. But no matter organized you and decisive you are, wedding planning is stressful. Big life occurrences, such as completely a doctorate program, like Taylor was, can really add on the overwhelming feeling. I remember Taylor telling us that she felt as if she could tell us all her wedding worries and that we heard her and helped ease her mind. Wedding planning is not just about the logistics of the day but ensuring that you have the right people on your team to make the entire process feel smooth.

Taylor and Carter envisioned their wedding as simple and laid back but organized from start to finish. One of the things that Taylor mentioned was that she hated when things felt dragged out at weddings, so we fine-tuned her wedding day timeline to ensure there was plenty of time for everyone to enjoy themselves, without rushing, while throwing in activities to grab their attention throughout the evening. It was also important that they had small personal touches of themselves all around the space at Braeloch. Two of my favorites were their wedding favors of his and her favorite candies and the centerpieces at each table. As you walked through the reception, each numbered table had a picture of both Carter and Taylor at the age of the table. What I loved about this was how it showed their own journey growing up that ultimately led them to each other.

Being a 2020 wedding, of course, we had the uncertainty of how COVID would impact things. It was important for us to have the important discussions with Carter and Taylor about their comfort levels, as well as the comfort levels of their guests. We carefully planned logistically for their guests by making the necessary adjustments to their dinner flow, which went flawlessly thanks to the amazing staff of Bella Events Catering, as well as to the layout of the space to encourage their guests to be mindful of those around them. We were prepared for anyone who felt they needed any other accommodations upon request as well. At the end of the night, when our feet are killing us and we are all ready to call it a night, my favorite part happens. I look back at the newlyweds and I get to see the smile that says it all. The smile that says, “We did it and I’m ready for this life with you.” And that makes the entire process complete.
